Garden Window Season

Written by green1 on Apr 3rd, 2008 | Filed under: Gardens, Inside and Outside, Replacement Windows

Many of you might not know it, but today marks the start of the garden window season. If you want to get a head start on your flower gardens and vegetable garden you can safely start your seedlings indoors. Imagine being able to start your plants without the risk of a cold night and a heavy frost killing them! Most kitchen windows or bathroom windows can be replaced with a garden window in less than one day. Once you transfer your plants outdoors you can continue to use your new garden window year round to grow herbs and regular house plants. Think of the benefits of nice fresh herbs year round only inches from your sink!

Their are several options when you order a new garden window, some of the most popular ones are;

1. Shelves if you want to grow 2 or more layers of small plants.

2. Custom art work on the glass like beveled glass, stained glass, and glass with lead or zinc patterns.

3. Knee braces that support your garden window so it does not sag and cause glass failure.

Your local replacement window professional can guide you through all of the options and help you determine your project cost. Feel free to post any comments and Charles from Green Home Improvements can answer your questions.

Replacement Window Estimates

With the cold weather outdoors and the hint of spring every time we get a warm day, thoughts of starting some seedlings are filling our minds. This week I attended an indoor flower show in Providence RI with my daughter who is 6. I was waiting for her question, “are we going to start a garden again this year”? Last winter we started a few hundred seedlings all over our kitchen and dining room. One of the problems we had was the seeds turned into plants and they all leaned towards the sun at pretty sharp angles. We would have to rotate our plants at least once a day so they would not grow side ways!

Since I sell garden windows and have one sitting around for my kitchen it would make sense that I just install one and let my seedlings grow up toward the sun. It’s odd how I sell and install them for other people but my own hose has to wait. Today I discovered a product that is new to me that I would like to share with everyone:

Aerogarden Free Trial

The time lapse video on their site is rather entertaining and the thought of fresh herbs and flowers year round really impresses me. If you have tried this product please leave a comment.
